MSU and the SEC

For as good as my beloved Bulldogs are this year, it has been a mediocre season. The dawgs and good for nothing UM Rebels are tied for the lead in the Western Division (SEC) with a disappointed 7-7 conference play record. Wednesday both teams will be playing then UM has a game on Saturday versus still possible first place contender Auburn and State has a game on Sunday against also still possible first place contender Alabama. Obviously each game is important for both teams since they are duking it out for first but there is also a gravity to the situation because of what teams they are both playing. While State's opponent for Wednesday Arkansas is not all together out of the competition, the Ole Miss - Bama game will be a lot more important. Depending on the outcomes of three different games on Wednesday there could be anywhere between a four-way tie for first (all with teams batting less than .500) or a sole team in first.

The games this weekend only lend more to the madness. However you want to look at it, this season, the SEC tournament, and the NCAA tournament will all becoming down to the last week of regular season games for four teams. Which ever school comes in the first in the West will be given a first round exemption in the SEC tournament which is more than handy. Also, first place in the West pretty much guarantees a bid in the NCAA tournament. So it you can see the importance of it all.

I have faith in my bulldogs. We are a young team sure and the season has been sad for the whole division but we are very much a second half team when it comes to crunch time and as I've explained I think this is absolutely crunch time. They have been a lot of fun to watch this year and while I'll be sad to see my personal favorite player leave us (D. Slater) I know next year will be even more excited and we will be even better.

Go Dawgs.
